some food for thought... with a side of music

i love storms.

the other day my kindred spirit, jess, introduced me to pandora radio. i am certain that i am one of the few who does not know about this wonderful little secret, but in case i'm not, i feel obligated to share. Go here: type in your favorite artist or song and it will instantly make you your own radio station based on artists and song similar to those you love! genius! (and its free!)

now for a quote from a daily quote calendar.
"we learn to believe by believing. we learn to love by loving. the practice of acting on a certain thing, even (or especially) when feeling is absent, embodies the entire "how" of growth."
~Eugenia Price

so here's God reiterating a theme in my life right now. i was feeling blah, unmotivated, bored.... just kind of 'eh'. until i remembered all the aspirations/dreams i used to have of ways i could "spur people on toward love and good deeds." so instead of wallowing in my 'lack of friends' or job in our current location, i've decided to embrace, encourage, and reach out to those wonderful friends i do have... no matter how scattered across the country we may be. so in little things, small notes/gifts/cookies, etc i've discovered again how much loving other people makes me feel alive and how i don't need to be working as a nurse to do it! (ground-breaking, i know.) doing these things, journaling, and reading devotionals (even when i don't yet crave the Word like i used to) is going to teach me to do these things. our devotional today by barbara rainey was talking about accepting our humanity and not demanding instant maturity from ourselves. all things take time, effort, and certainly some disappointment as we aspire and strive to be more like Jesus. BUT! the encouraging thing is that our little baby steps in trying to mimic Him count! they are critical in building our habits and in making us who we will become. i often forget how much what i do now will affect my future and its a nice kick-in-the-pants kind of reminder! i need to DO whatever it is - put forth the effort, pray for an open and teachable heart and mind and determine to keep it up. will you pray for me?

what's something that you need to learn?

Wherever we go there we are said...

oh, how I miss you and our conversations! I wish you could drive with me all the way to FL in a month and chat about all these things of life and what God wants to teach us... I have found myself growing SO much deeper through the hard times of the past 2 months than I ever have... I just know that when life gets hard God is always doing something so deep and meaningful, which it sounds like He is doing in you! I for one appreciate the "little things" you are doing for your friends across the country and will commit to pray for you! I miss you SO much friend! Know you are loved even from the other side of the country... seriously, could FL be ANY futher? Love & Hugs!

Your thoughts are so sweet to me. Thank you for sharing. :-) How's the "doing" going? We have been praying for you and Adam as you get adjusted in your new home.

I need to learn the same thing. That doing little things--for myself, for other people, for God--is an infinitely better alternative than doing nothing. Because doing nothing doesn't just mean standing still right? It means digressing and falling back, wallowing. Keep those baby steps coming!
